Deep Cleaning Explained

While daily cleaning maintains a vibrant, gleaming business there are some areas which should be given extra attention once or twice a year. On a daily basis professional cleaners focus on desks, doors, kitchens and bathrooms to name a few. This establishes a professional, tidy appearance for your customers and staff, but it might be smart to include some deep cleans in your cleaning contract.

Listed are some areas in your office that may not be included in your cleaning contract but need attention throughout the year:

·  Behind desks

·  Underneath/around photocopiers

·  Under/behind couches or chairs

·  Hard to reach ledges

·  Build-up on windows that are not cleaned regularly

·  Walls

·  Around indoor plants

If you have ever forgotten or ignored cleaning behind furniture in your house, you’ve probably found dust, coins, small bits of garbage or just a general build-up of grime when you’ve moved that piece of furniture. An easy remedy can be ‘out of sight out of mind’ but that doesn’t actually make the mess go away and it will continue to fester. The same goes for your business. Behind your desk and under office equipment such as photocopiers there is likely an accumulation of paper clips and pens all wrapped in dust. This creates a breeding ground for bacteria that can spread around your office and potentially a place for bugs and even mice to make their home. These spots may be out of sight, but over time they are degrading the condition of surfaces and floors in your business in unseen ways. This can negatively impact your employees health and their enjoyment of the space.

Professional cleaning companies will usually create a scope of work with their clients and when it comes to windows, many business owners will only focus on the ground level windows and glass doors, often forgetting about office windows or hard to reach windows. Focusing only on storefront windows allows for soot build up on the frames and smudges from rain and dust on the uncared for windows. A similar, often not thought of issue is marks on the walls.. Sometimes these are visible, when it is a scuff mark, pen line etc., however customers, especially children, will run their hand across your wall or lean on it while waiting and this leaves a residue on the wall. It may not be noticeably visible, but it is definitely there. Wiping down the walls helps protect the paint by removing scuff marks and oils left behind.

This is not a complete list as businesses differ in the equipment within their space, but it is a good framework to recognize the places in your business that are often left out of cleaning contracts. We recommend speaking with a commercial cleaning company to assess your needs and schedule for routine deep cleans to reach these areas.
